On the way home from the coast the other night, I had a lot of fun taking photos of the lights outside the car as we were going down the highway (I was not driving). I enjoyed moving the camera to add to the movement of the car to make some interesting abstract patterns. Plus it was a huge change from shooting nature photog

1. Make a late-night run to the convenience store for Ben & Jerry's. My roommate and I did this all the time in college. She stayed skinny. I did not. Other parts of our college food staples--microwaved Easy Mac and the Taco Ball drivethrough--I have pretty much given up, because of the unfortunate things

Like with all families my partners family has issues. There are those that do not get along, brothers, cousins, they are all there. When the family got together this week after the funeral they all managed to keep peace and even talk some. It was the first time that I ever felt really comfortable around them all. It was a m

It all went down in the kitchen.I was doing something. I think I was cooking. Two of my children were also in the kitchen. They were squabbling. We'll call them Child A, and Child B, to protect the identity of the not-so-innocent. So Child A and Child B were squabbling. I'm not really sure what it wa

We lost my partners mom on Tuesdays and while we are all very upset needless to say I could not help but be amazed at the out pouring of emotion and blessing from so many people here this week. From the people at Lydia House where she lived to the bank where the family does business they have been so real with their feeling

So...what do YOU want to talk about?1. Extra-curricular activities for preschool/kindergarten age kids. Do they have a purpose? And what is that purpose? How do you decide what to participate in? Do you let your kid pick, or do you simply inform them of their impending enrichment? How do you decide

I tried an informal test of the IS (image stabilization) on my camera and lens. This photo with the soft water look was taken in bright sunlight handheld at 1/8 second. A tripod would certainly have been a good idea, but it came out better than I expected.

Perhaps you watch the TV show How I Met Your Mother. In which case, I will simply say: here is my Murtaugh List, and you will know what I mean.If you do not watch this show, then here's an explanation: there was an episode where the late-20s age Te

Saw this interesting combination south of Corvallis Saturday - crows and geese - plus the early blossoms on the tree, cloud-darkened sky and bright green grass add all that color.

When you live in a place like the OR the last thing you want to ever think about it death and yet like every place else on Earth it is all around us. It is the ugly truth mixed inside all of the beauty that is all around us here in this wonderful part of the world. Now we have my partners mom in Hospice....we sit and wait t

I am sad to report that my clearance-priced overstock Lands End swimsuit that I was so excited about did not do magical things for me, as I had hoped. In fact, I don't even like it. I'm going to return it. Sigh.Problems:

"Well, she told me that the reason she didn't want to do it and was being so snotty about it was because it was hard," I explained to Eric. "I mean, I already knew that of course. But I was glad she admitted that was the reason. And so then I told her, 'Well, there are going to be lots of times in your life whe
