Chad Kennedy, brewmaster of Bend’s upcoming Worthy Brewing, revealed the new brewery’s logo on Twitter (and Facebook) the other day: I like it, it’s a strong, clean design with detail but not too much detail. In addition, there is also a new Facebook page for the brewery here.

Snow came really late this year. And that's pretty bad for a town whose economy counts on it for tourism. Last week, it snowed over 5 feet at our local resort, shutting it down for a day. We headed up to go sledding. Let's just say, pregnancy and watching your family sled, don't mix.

Player's Bar & Grill on the west side is not the first place that comes to mind when I'm looking for some eats. It ain't one of Bend's more upscale establishments. But I was tooling down Century Drive around lunch time yesterday, entertaining the idea of getting some barbecue ribs from Baldy's when I s

If you have a stick, beat the drum. Not everything’s worthy of that beat, but this one is a pretty good stick (images by Simone Paddock Photography): Full, readable version is here. Thanks to Pamela Armstrong and client PGC Building & Design for making this article happen.

my son will kill me someday for posting this photo After 3.5 years of diapers, we're finally diaper free in our house. I will admit, I should have done this sooner but nothing seemed to motive my son -- that was until he saw Cars 2 and he wanted new cars to play with. Everyone had advice for me ... put him and pull-ups and

Water is a fascinating medium – in and out of the photo studio. Did you know, for example, that water has memory? Meta-physical aspects aside however, the way we see and experience water on a daily basis is mostly pretty one-sided: flat, clear, still. Granted – it has its wild and violent side too, but [...]

I love getting inspiration from fellow bloggers and people I follow on Twitter. Imitation is the best form of flattery, right? Nanette, who is super cool in real life, made this recipe on Christmas Day for her brother-in-law who is a vegetarian.  Super intrigued, I asked her for the recipe. The recipe was a hit in my hou

I don't expect stores to carry every single weird item I want to buy; It's unrealistic because: 1. I'm a quirky fellow, and (B) a store is probably doing gangbusters if it carries 90% of what customers are looking for.But boy did the stupid big-box stores disappoint this week.Case #1.

I popped open and enjoyed a bottle of Hop Henge from Deschutes Brewery this evening, and rather than write a full review I thought I’d just jot down some thoughts. This is Deschutes’ “Experimental” IPA which masquerades as an Imperial IPA; at 8.5% alcohol by volume and 95 IBUs, this certainly qualifi

One of the biggest challenges for investors is determining what's valuable to your investment process and what's noise. I would guess that at least 95% of what I read and a huge chunk of the research I do is worthless to mine. Making that determination, however, is not nearly as easy as it seems.
